Today's Topic: How to Get a Position in Leadership Roles
Throughout middle and high school, I have been involved in a variety of leadership organizations, and have held various positions in each of them. I have been on ASB, as Comissioner of Activities and Comissioner of Community Relations. I have also been an Ambassador and a Link Crew Leader. In addition to this, as a member of National Charity League, I have been President, Secretary, Treasurer, VP of Activities, VP of Philanthropy, and Council Representative. All of these roles have given me plenty of opportunities to learn the best approach to landing any leadership position, and I want to share it with you!
First of all, always be on time with deadlines. For example, since many leadership positions have an application, make sure to turn the application in as early as possible. This shows that you are organized, manage your time well, and are commited to the position.
Secondly, know all of the roles, responsibilities, and duties of the position you are applying for. That way, you can incorporate it into your application or even interview, in order to prove that you are the right candidate for the position. For example, if your desired position requires you to make posters, you can highlight your artisitic abilities when explaining what traits make you perfect for the position.
Thirdly, emphasize all of the experience you have that makes you well qualified and prepared for the role. Make sure to talk about previous positions you have held, and specifically what you did within those positions, and then compare it to what you will be doing in the desired position in order to show that you are ready and prepared to take on those responsibilities.
Finally, if the process requires an interview, take advantage of it. Be super confident, and market yourself as someone they would be happy to work with, because if you get the position, you will be working with them. In addition to this, once they ask you a question, remember that the floor is yours. Once you answer the question, you can try and direct your answer to include more information that you want them to know, even if it isn't just an answer to the question. Don't overdo this, just do it enough to where you are letting them know more about you, without them even realizing it.
You got this! Remember that anyone can be a leader, all it takes is taking that first step!
